For years, we considered Cortland, New York, as just the midway point between Syracuse and Binghamton; but after actually going there, we have changed our minds. Cortland has some very neat things to boast: the 1890 House and other elegant old homes on Tompkins Street; a nice old-fashioned downtown area; a few beautiful stone churches on or near (what else) Church Street; and the Cortland County Courthouse.
